On the project

Air-breathing electric propulsion is a key enabling technology for launching communication and imaging satellites into very low Earth orbit (150-400 km). The main challenge of existing ABEP concepts is low ionization efficiency. Within this project, a new plasma source will be designed and built, with particular focus on its power coupling efficiency (and, therefore, ionization efficiency). The design will be based on numerical modelling.
