On the project
Although hypokinetic dysarthria (HD; a motor speech disorder) is an early marker of Parkinson's disease (PD), its diagnosis is usually made in a clinic or remotely requiring a patient to actively interact with a device (e.g. a smartphone). The goal of this project is to explore new approaches to the passive examination of HD in PD patients based on acoustic analysis of running speech. Newly designed and clinically interpretable methods will be used to remotely assess the progress of PD, as well as predict its motor and non-motor symptoms.
