On the project

Description in English
The aim of the project is to design, install and commission an experimental forward osmosis (FO) unit as an innovative and effective means of achieving water circularity in industrial plants. Water recovery by osmosis is a passive process, which is associated with a favorable energy balance. Other positive features of FO are resistance to fouling, chemical robustness, high water yields or low operating pressures. Suitable wastewater types for the deployment of FO are characterised by large volumes and low contamination (e.g. from the food industry). The tasks of the project will answer important research and development questions of this progressive technology, in particular a) the areas of applicability, b) the appropriate draw solution, c) the regeneration options for the draw solution.

Key words in English
forward osmosis; industrial wastewater; circular water management; water reuse; draw solution; zero liquid discharge; recovery
