On the project

The mechanically induced ATPR (mechanoATRP) is one of the promising approaches for polymer fabrication in a controlled manner. The advantage of this approach is an alternative mechanical energy source next to commonly utilized temperature or light. In this respect, the potential homogeneity of the polymerization in bulk is significantly better than in the case of photo-induced one and significantly shorter than in the case of temperature-induced. It provides a promising alternative to the current state of the art. An active agent for electromechanical transformation and reaction activation is a piezo particle. Therefore, this project is focused on the synthesis of unconventional piezoparticles based on ceramics. The particles will be thoroughly characterized from the structural and piezoactivity points of view since electromechanical energy conversion is a crucial parameter for success in the mechanoATRP. The polymerization kinetics, monomer conversion and polydispersity as fundamental characteristics will be elucidated and the relationship to particle piezoactivity will be analysed.
