On the project

In this project, we propose to design, analyze, and demonstrate the proof of concept for two tunable hybrid nanophotonic devices: an electric-magnetic switch and a resonance-energy switch. To this end, we will exploit a novel hybrid material platform that combines vanadium dioxide and gold. Vanadium dioxide exhibits a metal-insulator transition and provides the desired tunability, while gold offers high optical conductivity, chemical stability and design flexibility due to the availability of nanofabrication methods.
