l. Restoration of ultrasonic tomograms by means of formalized optimization, modified with respect to the specific properties of ultrasonic imaging, aiming at an improvement of both radial and lateral resolution and, simultaneously, to suppression of thespecific non-additive noise (speckles). The new approach includes also an original adaptive correction of attenuation and frequency-shift of ultrasound in non-homogeneous tissues. A new point is also the analysis of the complete sonographic signal in radio-frequency domain rather than of the usual video-signal obtained by envelope-detection. 2. Formalized segmentation of time- and space-sequences of (generally low-quality) sonographic images aiming at the recognition of anatomic structures in three-dimensional data provided by some modern ultrasonic scanners, with a view of following the dynamics of time-varying biological structures (e.g. in cardiology) based on 4-D data.
