Original Abstract
Mechanics of flow in human lungs has major influence on a transport and deposition of inhaled particles. A semi-realistic model of human tracheobronchial airways was used for experimental measurement and numerical simulation of an air velocity field. Axial velocities in 14 points in a trachea were measured using Constant Temperature Anemometry and compared with numerical simulation. The influence of a computational mesh quality was investigated as well. The experimental and simulated results proved significant differences between the methods. Probable causes of the discrepancies are a size of the anemometric probe, accuracy of the numerical method and its sensitivity to mesh quality and boundary conditions.
