Original Abstract
Mini invasive method targeted replacement of tissue defects of articular cartilage and growth plate have been proposed based on our experience in the treatment of bone defects in miniature pigs using new biopolymer composites seeded with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs). To study the regeneration of articular cartilage and growth plate, scaffold with self-supporting three-dimensional structures of collagen and chitosan fibers allowing both hydrodynamic casting MSCs and chondrocytes, and good handling, was chosen. These biodegradable scaffolds with seeded cells have successfully undergone preclinical testing on rabbits and minipigs, which were implanted at the site of damage cartilage (knee articular or distal epiphysis). The scaffold initiates tissue regeneration and resorbs in the body with controlled manner.
