Original Abstract

Three different types of geocement thermal insulating materials were produced as possible materials to insulate for an energy storage facility. Expanded perlite and vermiculite were added as fillers during the mixing process. The produced materials were subjected to heat treatment before determining their properties. The materials chosen as the most suitable for an energy storage facility were those containing only expanded perlite as a filler and were characterized by low density values (321 and 376 kg/m3), thermal conductivity values of 0.0727 and 0.0766 W/m.K and average thermal resistance coefficient of 2.1 m2.K/W. These materials ensure minimum heat losses if temperature range is 318–923 K and the thickness of thermal insulation layer is 250–260 mm.
