Original Abstract
CTAB and Septonex are cationic surfactants known for harmful effects on different cell types (bacteria, fungi, mammal cells, etc.). Colloidal complexes of CTAB or Septonex with oppositely charged hyaluronic acid were prepared primarily by their electrostatic interactions with the aim of their potential application in drug delivery. Hyaluronic acid seems to be promising biomaterial of near future due to its broad range of biological functions - combination of its biocompatibility and biodegradability properties and its susceptibility of chemical modifications. Hyaluronic acid can serve as a biocompatible carrier of a delivery system in which the surfactant serves as a solubilizer for hydrophobic active substance (drug). Our data show, that hyaluronic acid complexes with CTAB or Septonex reduce cytotoxicity of both antiseptics in all concentrations tested.
