Original Abstract

The main objective of this contribution is drawn towards the integration of complex microstructural functions, with physical meaning of e.g. thermomechanical fields, that may be used in Partition of Unity and hybrid finite element environments as the enrichment functions. In modelling of heterogeneous materials, both finite element formulations exchange approximation properties of standard element spaces by involving a class of functions mirroring the subscale phenomena, thereby alleviating the need for detailed meshing. The intrinsic feature of such a process is, however, a translation of the mesh-related difficulties to a problem of efficient calculation and integration of complex, often singular and discontinuous, functions over the element domains.
