Original Abstract
The paper describes a comparison of the G.711 – G.729 codecs which are used for compression and subsequent expansion for voice transmission over the Internet (VoIP). Application is made of the Cisco 2821 switches and Cisco 7975G IP telephones. Specific codecs are selected on the basis of a theoretical analysis. Two network analysers (LE-580FX LAN analyser and Fluke network tester) and Wireshark software are used for the analysis. The analysis parameters, which have been chosen for the comparison of individual codecs, are packet-loss, delay, jitter, bandwidth, and fidelity of sound reproduction.
