V oblasti pozemního stavitelství, jsou stavební jeřáby rozhodujícími mechanismy při realizaci stavebních projektů. Volba a způsob nasazení takových jeřábů má významný vliv na kontinuitu a trvání stavebního procesu, a tím i vliv na náklady. Význam efektivního nasazení jeřábu podtrhuje skutečnost, že stavební procesy dodávané jeřáby jsou často to, co lze nazvat rozhodujícími procesy, kterým se ostatní procesy musí přizpůsobit. Obecně platí, že jeřáb (nebo skupina jeřábů) je jedním z nejvíce využíváných, ale také nejdražších strojů, které lze nalézt na stavbách. Je tedy nutné věnovat pozornost výběru jeřábů, a to nejen s ohledem na technické parametry, ale také s ohledem na náklady s nimi spojené.

In the sphere of building construction, tower cranes are decisive mechanisms during the realisation of building projects. The choice and method of deploying such cranes have a significant influence on the continuity and duration of the construction process, and so also affect costs. The importance of deploying cranes appropriately is also underlined by the fact that the building processes supplied by cranes are also often what can be called decisive processes; other processes must adapt to their speed. It is generally true that a crane (or group of cranes) is one of the most highly utilised, but also most expensive machines found on building sites. It is thus necessary to devote attention to the selection of cranes, and not only with regard to the technical parameters required of them, but also in connection with the costs associated with them. These are primarily influenced by the number of cranes planned, their class and type, and also the period for which they are to be deployed.
