Original Abstract

Today, there are a lot of application areas, where a digital circuit, which is able to perform different functions in different situations, may be useful. There can be identified several main approaches how to implement a multifunctional circuit. Most simple and plain method is to design as many different circuits, as the total number of functions is actually needed. Then, outputs of these circuits are switched according to currently required function. This approach is perfectly functional, but appears to be quite inefficient in terms of size. Nowadays, principle of reconfiguration is used very frequently to implement several functions at one place within the circuit. This brings more area-efficient design and enhanced flexibility. In addition, circuits that were not prepared during design phase could be implemented, but may be less effective in terms of time needed to propagate the modification on a circuit level.
