U finálního výrobce optoelektronických prvků došlo k výskytu vysokého podílu zmetků u hotových zapouzdřených součástek, které neprošly úspěšně výstupní kontrolou elektrických parametrů. Analýzou provedenou finálním výrobcem bylo zjištěno, že příčinou zmetkovitosti je mechanické poškození čipů vzniklé dříve v technologickém řetězci, ve kterém se nachází dodavatel řezných operací (wafer dicing) a dále primární výrobce polovodičové struktury na waferech. Požadováno bylo vyhodnocení rozdílů v materiálových parametrech mezi zkušebními wafery z roku 2011 a 2013, které použil dodavatel řezných operací k seřízení strojů. Jako příčina byla označena chybná orientace waferů na nosičích, která způsobila odchylku řezných rovin od rovin přirozeného štěpení křemíku, což způsobilo odštipování částí hotových čipů při jejich vyjímání.

At the final manufacturer of opto-electronic elements, there occurred a high percentage of rejections of the finished encapsulated components that did not pass successfully the final inspection of electrical parameters. The analysis performed by the final manufacturer led to the finding that the cause of high rejection rate was a mechanical damage to the chips that occured earlier in the technology chain, in which a suplier of cutting operations (wafer dicing) and primary producers of the semiconductor structures on wafers are present. Required was to evaluate possible differences in material parameters between the test wafers from the year 2011 and 2013, which were used by the supplier of cutting operations to adjust his machines. Wrong orientation of the wafers with respect to the carrier was found as the source of problems. It caused the deviation of cutting planes from natural cleavage planes of silicon, causing chipping of parts of the finished chips upon their pick-up.
