Original Abstract

Switched circuits are often used in signal processing circuits (such as filters, modulators or A/D converters) or switched power sources. At present there are modern active circuit elements, which allow to increase switching frequency and therefore maximum frequency of processed signals. But these elements are not implemented in any known and available switched circuit simulation program. Usually the programs used for electric circuit simulation can not be used for efficient switched circuit simulation. Not solved problem with inconsistent conditions at switching times, when model with ideal switches for faster simulation are used, is one of the main reasons why not to use these programs in these cases. Inconsistent conditions may be caused by e.g. parallel connection (using an ideal switch) of two capacitors with a different potential or by connection of two inductor with different currents into series. We can bypass this by using of real switches (most often MOS transistors), but great extension of simulation time occurs. These programs also do not provide us results what we are interested in at switched circuits. On the other hand programs for switched circuit simulation are usually not both easily available and comfortable. Due to these and other reasons it was necessary to develop switched circuit simulation system with graphical interface, open architecture and a lots of predefined models of electronic devices. Our requirements were to create and edit electrical schema, models of new devices, to show simulation results in good form and so on. There was necessary to choose right numerical methods for switched circuit analysis, such as numerical integration methods (BDF family - Backward Differentiation Formulae) and iteration methods, modified nodal analysis – MNA, during development. Simulation algorithm was developed for chosen numerical method and embedded into environment of new program. The name of this program is SCISIP – Switched CIrcuit SImulation Program. It was developed in mathematical tool MathWorks© Matlab® r.13 that is available in the most universities.
