Original Abstract
The paper deals with philosophic aspects of microelectronics development in relation to near future applications. In the past four decades, there has been dramatic progress in microelectronics technology and enormous expansion of the global semiconductor market. The electronic industry has grown to be the largest in the world. The foundation of the electronics industry is microelectronics technology. The first half of the 20th century was characterized as the hardware age, while the second half has been considered as the software age. The twenty-first century should be the age of mechatronics, microsystems and nanosystems.
