Original Abstract

Much concerns have been expressed over the past years in terms of long-life learning or continuous education in the managerial practice. Do well-competent managers have university degree? Or are these managers more practically oriented, instead of theoretically based? This paper aims to verify the hypothesis on the dependence of the education on the competences of the top managers of small manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic. The primary research of the managerial competences was conducted through the structural survey. The survey included 50 general questions, case studies, relating to the key competences. The independence was examined through the standard chi-square test of independence. From the results cannot be deduced that there is a part of a competence to be directly dependent on the highest education level received. In other words, it cannot be assumed that the higher education level received, the higher probability that the obtained competence level will match with the required managerial competences and vice-versa.
