Original Abstract
A sampling based approach to the modelling of initial imperfections of the axis of a slender member using random fields is applied in the paper. The effect of the location of an incision on a cased section on the random load carrying capacity of a slender compressed steel member is studied. The load carrying capacity of the compressed column was calculated using the geometrically nonlinear solution applying the ANSYS program. Correlation dependencies among the load carrying capacities of individual variants of incision locations including the variant without incisions are studied. A dramatic influence of the location of the incision on the load carrying capacity was observed. The statistically evaluated design load carrying capacity was compared with the equivalent load carrying capacity evaluated according to design standards with the aim of checking the design standard and its reliability. The influence of the size and shape of initial imperfections of the member axis of an open cross section with an incision on the reduction of its load carrying capacity is described.
