Za provozu elektromotoru v soustrojí s ventilátorem chladící věže došlo ke kontaktu rotoru se statorem a v jeho důsledku k poškození několika součástí motoru. Požadováno: Určení, zda stav dodaného ložiska odpovídá některému ze scénářů: 1) Ložisko bylo ve štítu namontováno do otvoru o větším průměru, což vedlo k radiálním pohybům a jeho zničení; 2) Ucpávka před ložiskem netěsnila a došlo tak k pronikání vody do ložiska; 3) Ložisko vykazuje materiálovou vadu, která zapříčinila jeho zničení. Jako primární zdroj poškození ložiska byla identifikována infiltrace korozního prostředí přes vadnou ucpávku. To je v souladu se scénářem č. 2. Jako výrazně přispívající faktor pak působilo elektrické namáhání ložiska.

During operation of the electric motor powering the propeller in a cooling tower a contact the rotor and stator occurred which resulted in damage of several components of the motor. Ther ewas a requirement to determine whether the status of the motor bearings supplied corresponds to one of the suggested damage scenarios: 1) The bearing was fitted inside the motor housing into the hole of greater diameter, which led to the radial movements and its destruction; 2) Packing before the bearing was not sealing properly and water penetrated into the bearing; 3) The bearing exhibits material defects that caused its destruction. The infiltration of corrosive environment through the defective seal was identified as the primary source of damage to the bearings. This is in accordance with scenario No. 2. The electrical stresses on the bearings were identified as significantly contributing factor.
