Original Abstract
Nowadays, existing constructions are more frequently adapted to new purposes, especially in connection with an effective utilizing of material sources. Strengthening of constructions using composite materials can adequately substitute the classical strengthening process. The article is dealing with current issue connected to strengthening of load bearing reinforced concrete vertical members – columns and pillars - by FRP fabric confinement. The properties of confined element are defined based on chosen relationships describing the effect of confinement. The theoretical results are compared with an experimentally determined behaviour of reinforced concrete column with circular cross section. The loading tests were conducted on two groups of specimens – short and high columns. The obtained data are presented with emphasis on the description of slenderness effect of confined column.
