Original Abstract
Barium-Magnesium-Aluminium-Silicate (BMAS) powder was manufactured from the mixture of compounds (15 wt.% BaO, 7wt.% MgO, 28 wt.% Al2O3 and wt. % 50 SiO2) by means of annealing at the temperature of 1200°C for 3 hours in a furnace. Resulting powder was crushed into the fraction of 20 – 45 micrometers. Thermal barrier coating system consisted of CoNiCrAlY (bond coat) and BMAS (top coat) was sprayed by atmospheric plasma spray (APS) technique onto the nickel-based superalloy substrate. The BMAS top coat in as-sprayed state was found to be a mixture of amorphous and crystalline Al2O3, SiO2 and MgO phases and therefore some of the samples were crystallized via annealing at 1200°C for 4 hours, 1000°C for 10 hours in furnace or subjected to several passes of colder end of plasma jet formed in APS gun.
