Original Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is promising intercalation material for a negative electrode in a rechargeable sodium ion battery (SIB). MoS2 is an attractive material with layered structure and with trigonal prismatic coordination between the molybdenum (Mo) and sulfide (S) atoms which are primarily covalently bonded. In this study a Na/MoS2 cell was assembled as a rechargeable battery. The electrochemical behavior of Na/MoS2 cell was studied by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic (GCPL) measurement at room temperature. In the first charge cycle intercalation process was successful and the cell had a charge of 90 mAhg-1. In the first discharge cycle deintercalation process was unsuccessful with only marginal amount of sodium ions (Na+) leaving the negative electrode. Observing changes in crystallographic structure of MoS2 during intercalation–deintercalation process will show which possible adjustments to the material are needed.
