Original Abstract

Total price is one of the most important parameters of a construction project. Most investors – whether private individuals or public organisations – take the estimated preliminary price given in the building project during the pre-investment phase as the final price for the construction. This is problematic for designers, who often find, after they have prepared the detailed design documentation, that the price for the structure they designed is much higher and therefore unacceptable to the investor. This paper aims to show the advantages of BIM, an emerging way of designing a structure. Together with price databases or construction cost estimating software, the new approach should make design work easier in the earlier phases of a project.
