Original Abstract
The paper describes the basic points in creating an optimal information strategy in the sense of reaching such a solution in which the costs are minimal while achieving the pre-set level of resolution of information systems and technologies (ICT) in the given firm. Global methodologies such as the COBIT, ITIL and others describe the creation of information strategies, they can however not be used – due to their costs and workload – in the environment of SMEs. For these purposes, it is needed to find methodologies that will enable the optimization of information systems in the cases of these companies, which form a great part of the market. The fundamental premise of the optimal ICT solutions lies in levelling all the key components of the system to the same or close level, and this is due to the fact that costs of a balanced system are always lower than the costs of the system in which one of the components debases the overall resolution level. The methodology is bases on using the HOS method, which enables us to assess the level of balance in the eight areas under scrutiny. The paper lists also the results of the level of balance of the information system on the sample of examined companies as an indication of problematic areas.
