Original Abstract
Several fuzzy models of biofouling are available. However, effects of adsorption as the first and frequently the most important step of multistage biofouling were ignored. There are several reasons for this, namely its complexity and difficulties related to measurements under realistic industrial conditions. Moreover large scale experiments are prohibitively expensive and time consuming. Therefore a sequence of interview of experts was used as the only source of information input into the fuzzy model capable of incorporating effects of adsorption. However a variable ORA (Occupation Rate) was introduced to characterize the adsorption, which must be specified by a vector of parameters and not by a single parameter. ORA is studied together with the following variables: Temperature interval, Charge density of membrane surface / zeta potential, Plant design, relative dead zone volume, Redox potential, Membrane surface wettability, contact angle, Filtrate flux, Feed velocity gradient, Membrane configuration, Technological mode, Pre-treatment scheme, Feed type, Tendency towards biofouling. A fuzzy knowledge base with more than 1000 statements was developed. A dialog (expert system engineer/user) is presented in details.
