Original Abstract
Passive optical networks are the most promising solution for access networks. Nowadays, Gigabit passive optical networks are very popular for Internet services providers. These networks have currently been limited by transmission speeds (up to 2.5 Gbit/s in downstream) which is not sufficient for all services (such as 4k video transfer etc.) because this speed is shared with all users in the network. NG-PON2 standard is the latest standard with transmission speed up to 40 Gbit/s in downstream and 10\,Gbit/s for upstream direction. This article deals with an implementation of transmission convergence layer of these networks into OPNET Modeler tool. OPNET Modeler does not include optical networks components. We implemented all necessary components and active elements for static bandwidth allocation. Our results confirm that ONUs share 125 ms grant. The active components can be changed to comply with other passive optical network standards.
