Original Abstract

In the paper, we propose the novel technique of linear birefringence compensation dedicated for fiber optic current sensor based on the Jones calculus as a theoretical background. In combination with the compensation technique using Faraday rotator, we investigate the advantages and disadvantages of the novel approach based on the use of half-wave plates. The purpose is the avoidance of the use the Faraday rotator which shows some unadvantages. It has been shown that proper orientation of two half-wave plates situated in a fiber loop can fully replace the role of the Faraday rotator. In application of fiber optic current sensing it seems to be crucial to ensure proper linear birefringence compensation to fix sensor sensibility and functionality.
