Original Abstract
All microcontrollers have digitals inputs and outputs. Some of them include A/D converters and n particular D/A converters. Digital output voltage can have more than two states. It can be achieved by digital modulation and a simple analogue filter. In this paper sigma-delta modulation and PWM modulation are realized on an ATmega8 microcontroller made by Atmel. The filters with various cutoff frequencies were successively connected to the digital output and the transfer characteristic and suppression of a.c. voltage were measured. From the result it can be seen that the sigma-delta modulation is more suitable than PWM modulation for use in D/A converters.
