Original Abstract
A typical ultrasound scanner measures 1D RF ultrasound data and transforms them into common sector images (B-scans). This process involves several processing steps, which are beforehand programmed and are barely controllable or even accessible by the end-user. Therefore, to experiment with data processing, it is more advantageous to work with the raw unprocessed RF data, since we are not limited by the system's configuration and can process the data in the way that best suits our needs. A typical processing includes: time gain compensation, envelope detection, dynamic range compression and scan-conversion to 2D B-scan. The whole processing can bee implemented on a standard PC. This text aims to serve as a reference for those working on acquisition, processing and scan-conversion of 1D radio-frequency ultrasound data.
