Original Abstract

Myoelectric prostheses belong to the most perfect, last demanding, and most natural replacements of the missing upper limb. Control of these prostheses is realized through the use of myopotentials that occur during muscle contraction. The waveform and amplitude of these signals are altered by various motions, force and velocity of contraction, and distance from the contracted muscle to the EMG sensor. The myoelectric signal is noninvasively measured through electrodes placed on the skin surface. For myoelectric prosthesis hand control the EMG signal must be precisely processed and analysed. This article deals with several methods of measurement, analysis and classification of the EMG signals usable for control of the myoelectric prostheses and other robotic systems.
