Original Abstract
The young Czechoslovak Republic generated immense cultural effort triggered by the enthusiasm of national independence during interwar period. The traditionalist architects created official buildings of the young state. Avantgarde architects went the way from poetism and constructivism of 1920s towards scientific functionalism and surrealism of 1930s. This optimistic period of less than two decades was ended by the Munich Agreement in 1938 followed by the Communist coup of the state in 1948.
