Original Abstract
The purpose of data-link layer discovery protocols is to provide the network administrator with the current information (i.e., various Layer 2 and 3 parameters) about neighbor devices. Despite these discovery protocols are second-class citizens comparing to the routing or switching protocols, they are invaluable for network monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This paper outlines design, implementation and deployment of Cisco Discovery Protocol and Link Layer Discovery Protocol simulation modules in OMNeT++ simulator.
