Original Abstract

Green public procurement includes the integration of environmental requirements throughout procurement of work, services and products by public authorities. This paper provides an impression on the growth of green public procurement in recent years by focusing on its expansion towards sustainable public procurement, where ecological development considerations are integrated. Furthermore, the paper discusses the implementation of environmental criteria in the construction sector, and issues related to approaches in procurement procedure, green public procurement criteria, and the link between criteria and functional objectives of contracts. The paper highlights that such issues need to be addressed during the progress towards environmentally friendly public procurement.
