Original Abstract

The article is focused on measurements of a radial jet characteristics; velocity decay along the radial direction, turbulence profiles across the jet and spreading rate of the jet. These are of great importance when investigating a radial jet reinforced exhaust system. For this purpose, an experimental device has been built, which can control the initial jet properties such as the jet width and orifice diameter, air speed and temperature, etc. Computer data acquisition system is based on distributed sensors and input/output modules which run under LabView development system. The device provides data that can be used for validation of simulation results; moreover the data are even useful as boundary conditions for the numerical modelling. Results of the measurements will help quantify the effect of a radial jet on a flow pattern in front of a reinforced exhaust hood.
