Original Abstract

Presence of angular vibrations as a source of torsional vibrations results in defect of rotating equipment (damaged gear in transmission, fluctuating torque of electric motor due to damaged winding, etc.). An appropriate analysis of angular vibrations can be used as powerful technique for the vibrodiagnostics in the field of rotating machinery instead of traditional methods using only lateral vibrations on stator of machine. Hence, the output signal from a built-in sensor for the electric drive control simultaneously serves as additional aid for diagnostics. This paper describes the most common methods for measuring angular vibrations in rotating shaft. Main features and limitations of selected methods by means of requirements for reliable angular vibrations detection are discussed. In addition, an analysis focused on application of low-cost incremental encoders (conventional optical and magnetic types used in electric drives) for angular vibrations measurements will be presented.
