Original Abstract
Environmental contamination by xenobiotic residues is widespread world-wide problem. Significant sources of organic pollution are wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). WWTPs are insufficient to treat micropollutants by used conventional mechanical-biological technologies and they discharged treated wastewater to the recipients where it contaminates surroundings water ecosystem. WWTPs are point sources of pollution and contaminants have negative influence on water organisms. The serious problem is also possibilities of mobility of contaminants and their spread to other environmental compartments. From this reason there are research to find new technologies potentially used as tertiary treating step on WWTPs. One of the most discussed group of contaminants is antibiotics due to their potential for bacterial resistance. In our work, we are focusing on sulfonamides antibiotics which are used as human and veterinary antibiotics. Six representants from sulfonamides antibiotic (sulfapyridine, sulfadiazine, sulfamethoxazole, sulfathiazole, sulfamerazine and sulfamethazine) were chosen for experiments. Nowadays, they are discussed several possibilities for removal of xenobiotic residues from water matrix (AOP – advanced oxidation processes, sorption on active material, etc.) One of other way is the utilization of wood-decay fungi potential due to their unspecific oxidative enzymatic system. Especially Trametes versicolor, as representatives of white root fungi, has shown promising efficiency for degradation of micropollutants. In our work, we used mycelium T. versicolor cultivated on special carriers. This carriers were prepared by method 3D-printing and as a material was used fiber contains wood mass. For the experiments, drinking (as a model water) and wastewater from outflow from WWTPs in Brno were used. Both were spiked by sulfonamides antibiotics. Due to very complex matrix containing also fungi material leachate, it was necessary to optimize mainly cleaning step which was carried out by solid-phase extraction (SPE). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to mass spectrometry detector (MS) were used for the identification and quantification of selected analytes.
