Original Abstract
This article is focused on suitability, functionality and possibilities of using a non-destructive method of drying historic masonry with microwave radiation. First the method of microwave drying is described in general, then its use in construction practice is explained Following is a description of experimental work carried at Faculty of Civil Engineering, which has consisted of dampening and drying of several samples of building materials. The result is a comparison of microwave drying effects on samples of masonry made of three different kinds of building materials. One of these samples is made of brick construction, which has reached the age of 350 years. The article describes methodology of work and displays results of individual sub-measurements. At the end, the results of the experiment and the consequent suggested recommendations are summarized.
