Original Abstract
This article describes trends and evolution in automotive electrical systems. Consumer convenience, comfort and safety requirements are driving the demand for advanced features in automobiles - i.e. electrically assisted power steering, chassis stability controls, electrical variable valve timing, entertainment and navigation systems, etc. The fast growing market for electrically driven products is a key driver for emerging power semiconductor technologies. Many new electrical and electronic features that will be introduced into future vehicles generate electrical power requirements that exceed the capabilities of today's 12V electrical systems. One way to deal with this problem is the application of a 42V system ("Power Net").
