Original Abstract
Minor sacral architecture acts as a natural and key element of the Czech rural landscape, which has gradually been inhabited throughout the centuries, mostly by faithful peasants. Those peasants, who were inherently in daily contact with their land, tended to occupy the landscape by building small scale architectural structures such as wayside shrines, calvaries or chapels. The long-standing relationship between those farmers and their lands has been interrupted recently by changes in agricultural management and collectivization, which took place under control of the newly emerging regime. As a result, those minor architectural elements started to decay. However, after the fall of the communist regime people have made an effort to revitalize the landscape, regardless of the fact that collectivization has already left its traces across the country.
