Original Abstract
Structural adhesives play an irreplaceable role in construction industry. It is often necessary to precisely follow the instructions of the given manufacturer during the installation. Non-observance of even one of the rules can lead to the decrease in strength rate of the adhesively bonded joint. However, in building practice, respecting instructions is very vague. This approach could lead to the adhesively bonded joint failure. To determine the importance of this risk, five types of technological indiscipline and their combinations were tested. There was a total of 31 sets of combined technological indiscipline types. Adhesive system intended for façade application was chosen for the research purpose. The impact of technological indiscipline was assessed in combination with two cladding materials, sintered ceramic tile cladding and thermally modified wood. The research of the impact of technological indiscipline was divided into two phases. In the 1st phase, a variant with ceramic tile façade cladding was tested, which results have been already published [1]. The 2nd phase, which is described in this paper, focused on testing the impact of technological indiscipline combined with thermally modified wood. The results determined during testing technological indiscipline in combination with ceramic tile cladding only indicated the extent of a possible risk when installation guidelines are not followed. However, the results recorded during testing technological indiscipline in combination with wood cladding made it clear that non-observance of technological procedures has a significant impact on the decrease in the strength rate of the adhesively bonded joint. As for specimens where all types of technological indiscipline were applied at the same time, the strength rate of the joint exposed to tensile stress was reduced by more than 40%. In case of a single-lap joint, the strength rate was reduced by more than 70%.
