Original Abstract
Although batteries are now an everyday part of our lives and are found in countless electrical devices, few people know that batteries were used before the development of the electrical grid and have been with us for over 200 years. The term “battery” was firstly used in 1748 to describe a series of capacitors called Leiden jars to produce higher voltage. Since the discovery of the first battery, the Voltaic pile, the batteries have undergone considerable development. The aim of this article is to describe in more detail the process that batteries have gone through in the last 200 years.
