Original Abstract
Behaviour of switching arc in the quenching chamber of low voltage apparatuses is mainly influenced by thermodynamic conditions and by the distribution of magnetic field in the chamber. The article focuses on the influence of magnetic field. This field is used for forcing the arc into the chamber. The distribution of magnetic flux density is mainly affected by the configuration of the current carrying conductor. The aim of the work is to fing the most convenient geometry of conductor that satisfies prescribed criteria. The modern optimization method based on genetic algorithms is used for optimizing. The finite element method implemented in the ANSYS program is used for the magnetic field evaluation. The whole optimization procedure is controlled by the MATLAB program.
