Abstract

1-WP06-004 (TN01000026/1-V16) - The aim of the solution was to design the turbocharger insulation with minimizing the risk of cracking. Studies of possible concepts of the computational model were carried out. Based on PBST data the parametric FEM model was designed for further solution of the problem. This model greatly simplifies the variability of both the geometric and material input parameters as well as the modification of boundary conditions, including the number and location of the screw connections of the insulation to the turbocharger housing. Base on BUT simulations and proposed modification, PBST prepared production documentation of the modified insulation and prepared functional specimen. According to the simulations the insulation stiffness was increased to values that no resonance is expected at high speed regime of engine operation.
