Original Abstract
Increasing usage of nanoparticles raises concern about their potential adverse effect on various ecosystems. Once released into the natural environment, various interactions affect their transport and ecotoxicity. Especially in the soil environment, the presence of natural organic matter, a highly diversified and reactive soil component, can affect nanoparticles' behavior and, most importantly, bioavailability. Thus, this chapter discusses the general principles and mechanisms that affect the interactions of natural organic matter with inorganic nanomaterials and the implications of these mutual interactions on mobilization and subsequent uptake of elements by plants.
