Original Abstract

Alcohol oxygenates can significantly improve diesel emissions. This work aims to investigate the effects of ethanol and butanol oxygenates in diesel/biodiesel. The compositions for each blend are systematically formulated via a systematic model-based design. A Linear Programming (LP) model is established for the selection of the alcohol oxygenates. The effects of cetane number (CN), oxygen content (OC), and heat of vaporisation (HOV) have been evaluated. Performance, combustion, and emissions characteristics were compared to ASTM D975. The result depicted butanol oxygenates can improve the combustion and emissions characteristics of diesel/biodiesel with 15% NOx reduction.
