Original Abstract
Existence of defects (such as cracks, pores, inclusions etc.) in steel structures is nearly unavoidable and therefore, investigations on their behaviour and the structural integrity of the structure are necessary. Additionally, it is observed that such defects can interact with corrosion pits, which are important consequences of the other phenomenon related to steel structures. Therefore, this paper is devoted to a study on the influence of the corrosion pit on fatigue crack propagation under mixed-mode I/II loading conditions. A rectangular bar subjected to remote tensile loading is modelled numerically by means of the finite element method and principles of the linear elastic fracture mechanics are applied. Several conclusions are stated on the effect of individual parameters varied within the study on the crack propagation. More extensive studies are intended in the field of crack deflection etc.
