Original Abstract

The Eurobiotech Congress 2022 will take place in Prague, whe-re tradition of annual personal conferences was interrupted for 2 years by covid pandemics. CR is the country that laid down the principal laws of heredity by J.G. Mendel, introduced the contact lens to the world and successfully developed the com-pounds on which current anti-AIDS drugs are based. The his-tory of Czech biotechnology is strongly associated with typical local industries such as beer and wine production. Research institutions focus traditionally on the plant and animal biote-chnologies. Recently, biotechnology-related achievements have been oriented preferentially towards nanotechnology, pure biotechnology and human healthcare. The status of the biote-chnology sector in the Czech Republic (CR) in the year 2022 was also influenced by COVID-19 pandemics. Some aspects of current status, trends and challenges of Czech biotechnologies in both global and local sector will be discussed in this intro-ductory speech.
