Original Abstract

This work deals with the methodology for threedimensional printing of the spine model. This is because the model of the patient's spine can be used to give the doctor a better idea of the procedure being performed before and during the surgery. The images of the spine part without surrounding soft tissue taken by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were available for processing. Classifiers were trained on the selected images to segment the images of both modalities, with greater success in segmenting the computed tomography images. The proposed classifier model was then used to segment a comprehensive set of images from which a digital spine model could be constructed. In the last phase of the project, the digital model was printed on a 3D printer.
