Original Abstract
Due to the fact that emission reduction has become an important topic and due to the upcoming EURO 7 standard, the automotive industry is focusing on reducing the carbon footprint. One of the ways to do so is enhancing the efficiency of internal combustion engines by technologies such as cylinder deactivation. This technology offers fuel economy benefit, implementing cylinder deactivation to modern engines with lower cylinder count can be challenging. The implementation requires numerous design modifications and some negative consequences like higher torsional vibration are associated with the technology. This paper focuses on investigating these constraints of cylinder deactivation.
